Dorothy Hoffner, a 104-year-old woman from Chicago, recently broke the world record for the oldest skydiver. She jumped out of an airplane from 13,500 feet at Skydive Chicago Airport in Ottawa, Illinois, and landed safely on October 1. She broke the previous record set in 2022 by a 103-year-old Swedish woman. Hoffner's jump was unofficially certified as the world record, and Skydive Chicago is working with Guinness to make it official. However, just days after her jump, Hoffner passed away in her sleep at her home in Chicago. The cause of her death is unknown. Hoffner was a thrill-seeker who had made her first skydive years ago at age 100. She was calm and confident during her record-setting seven-minute jump and told the crowd afterward that "age is just a number." Skydive Chicago and the United States Parachute Association celebrated Hoffner's jump and expressed their sadness at her passing. The current record belongs to Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson of Sweden, who was 103 when she made a jump in 2022
